Native Advertising
Native advertising is nothing new. From the days of the Jolly Green Giant and the Marlboro Man,
native advertising is intrinsic to the idea of story or what is called commonly called content. Content in its simplest form is the information you provide to the reader.
You can scream BUY THIS! BUY THIS! BUY THIS!
But, your readers aren’t trapped anymore and in just a click can surf a million thoughts away from you. Screaming doesn’t work. It just makes people want to ignore you more.
So how do you go about the process of engaging the audience without turning them off or worse against you?
How do you keep them reading and get them to click on the link to your site?
How do you get them to trust you? How do you get them to become your partner? Your advocate?
First, leave the subterfuge to the youngster with their hand caught in the cookie jar.
Be upfront with your content including the legal disclosures. Trying to hide that you are selling something will result in you losing the respect of your tribe.
Be helpful. Provide content the reader can actually use.
Be honest. Provide thoughtful content that helps the reader.
Partner with bloggers with platforms that you can provide relevant information to.
The days of “I win and you lose” are over.
