Searching for Being Found
Google dominates the search world.
As in, way Way WAY ahead of the closest competition.
What do those numbers look like? Google at 64% of the market share obviously owns the search engine market. The next closest player is Bing at a wimpy 15%.
You can look at these statistics two ways.
1. If all the cool kids are playing in Google’s sandbox, maybe you should go play there BUT that sandbox has a lot of other little kids playing in it too AND likely has some very big kids playing in it.
2. Whereas Bing is a smaller sandbox and has less kids, you might be able to follow Bing’s search engine optimization wishes and rule the roost.
Turning Heads Online
Getting noticed online boils down to who are you talking to and what are they using for their search engine.
Take for example my friend. She doesn’t like The Google and That Bing annoys her BUT she love those Firefox people.
If I had a product or service and wanted to get noticed by her demographic — to target market to people just like her — then I would be wasting time following the codex of Google or Bing search engines.
I’d be one smart cookie to follow Firefox’s rules of order for optimizing my content. Of course, I’m not an idiot either so it would be wise to do Google’s suggestions on optimizing the content as well.
Avatar = Client Persona = McDreamy
But optimizing isn’t everything. You have to have good actually useful content to optimize.
Long story short — your communications should boil down to this two part question:
1. Who are you trying to connect to?
2. Why should they give a damn about it?
If you can’t answer that, then Pass Go, Do NOT collect $200, and spend sometime in avatar/client creation jail creating one.
If you haven’t a freaking clue what I’m talking about, head over to the amazing HubSpot for a simple, easy, and (my favorite word) free tool to help you create the persona of your ideal McDreamy client.
